RELEASE: Santarsiero’s Silence on Iran Ransom
DOYLESTOWN, PA – Brian Fitzpatrick, former FBI Supervisory Special Agent and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney, released the following statement Friday regarding the Administration’s concession that the $400 million airlifted to Iran earlier this year was part of the release of Americans held hostage:
“Steve Santarsiero is trying to have it both ways: saying he opposes the Iran nuclear agreement to seem like he has an independent voice on foreign policy, while falling right in line when the Administration admits it paid the world’s largest sponsor of terrorism a $400 million ransom to keep his partisan backers happy. Our country faces threats of terror and international instability every day; There is no time for our leaders to politically triangulate their message on national security based on who they need votes from. As a former member of the national security community, I oppose the misguided nuclear deal with Iran and will work with anyone – Democrat, Republican or Independent – to reverse it starting Day One, not just when politically expedient.”
Earlier this month, Fitzpatrick released a statement condemning this transfer of funds and calling on his opponent to also speak out in opposition to the Iran nuclear agreement. That request remains unanswered.
For nearly a decade and a half, Fitzpatrick served as a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation where his focus was fighting political corruption and supporting global counter terrorism efforts. He served as the National Director for the FBI’s Campaign Finance and Election Crimes Enforcement Program, as well as a national supervisor for the FBI’s Political Corruption Unit. For his work, Fitzpatrick was an inaugural recipient of the FBI Director’s Leadership Award. Additionally,Fitzpatrick, prosecuted violent drug and gun offenders to stem the tide of abuse and violence.
